From site selection, to permitting and clearing land, to ensuring the foundations are set for heavy equipment access and then the actual construction of the substation, the process from start to finish requires a combination of engineering and construction expertise. Every step of the way, WHC will guide the process to ensure safe, reliable completion.

Following site selection and preparation is the early dirt-work where all the ground grid, conduit and cable trench is installed. Foundations are then poured to exact specifications, and then the structural steel is assembled. Next, the major equipment is set, cables are pulled in and all terminations are made according to code.

Our team of engineers as well as our safety and quality professionals keep a watchful eye to ensure all goes well during these crucial phases. But the real magic happens when our commissioning crews arrive to perform all the necessary tests and finally connect the station to the power grid.

At all stages, precise, technical engineering, accurate procurement and an understanding of industrial construction is critical to a safe and successful substation project delivery.

WHC’s experience in engineering, procurement and construction, and its depth of technical understanding, means we are capable of managing substation construction from early contractor engagement to commissioning, ensuring a safe, reliable and quality product.
